Secure Remote Backup Storage
(Geo-Redundant and Automatic)
Would you like to be able to get
rid of the worry about whether your ApotheSoft Database has been backed
up? Now, you can! We have teamed up with Rsync, Inc. to
provide Automatic backups of your critical data. Your backup can
be stored on Rsync data storage servers that are geo-redundant
(automatically copied to data centers in two states). You can
rest assured that if you ever need to recover your data you will be
able to do so.
Read below about a real life case of how well this can
work
We can set up your computer so that at a specific time every day the
your critical data files will be archived and stored on the Rsync remote
secure storage site. Once this is setup you, the process is fully
automatic. Normally, the backup is done automatically at night after your
store closes. In the morning the Backup program will give you a message
that the backup was completed. If for some reason the backup does not
complete which might be the case if your Internet service went down then
you will be given a message warning you of that problem as well. But even
in this case the program stores a backup copy on your local computer and
on a USB flash drive if you have that option turned on.
The cost of this service is just 40 cents per day or $12.00 per month.
A price well worth it, to know that if you should ever need to restore a
backup you will have access to your most recent backup in just minutes and
could be back in operation in less than an hour.
There is also an automatic check program that runs each time you start
the ApotheSoft system that verifies your remote backup looks valid.
If you go more than 7 days without a current backup you will get a
notice right on the screen and you can check it. The same utility
function will let you pick one of the last 7 days and download the
backup file to your computer.

A Real Life Story
One of our
customers had experienced several power failures due to local
thunderstorms. Each time the computer came back to life when the
power was restored. One morning a few days after the last
thunderstorm it would not boot up. You could get into some of the
hardware (BIOS) setup screens but it did not show that a disk drive was
installed. The disk had totally failed and apparently every
program and all data was lost. They called us for assistance.
They had purchased the
Remote Backup Option and had been faithfully backing up each day. We
checked and the previous day's backup did exist and it looked correct but
until they had a working computer we had to wait. They spent part of
the day trying to recover the computer but finally got some hands on
technical assistance, replaced the disk drive, and re-installed Windows.
Once the computer could boot up they called us and in less than 30 minutes
we had restored the complete backup including all ApotheSoft programs and
the database. Most of that time was simply copying the backup from the
remote site back to their computer. A quick check showed the last
prescription filled the day before was intact and they were ready to start
filling prescriptions. They setup the printer used to print labels and
they were back in business.
Some of their other software took a little longer to get re-installed but
their mission critical ApotheSoft system was up and running exactly
where they left off the night before.
If a spare computer was available or they had gone to the local Wal-Mart Store
(or anywhere else) and bought a replacement their downtime might have been
less than one hour. In terms of Disaster Recovery Plans it does
not get much better than this. Even if they had a physical disaster,
like a fire, at their pharmacy the data would have been 100% intact.

Disaster Recovery Plan that will work with your Mission
Critical Systems?
